Marcus Bignot spoke about his pleasure in Swindon Town finally being able to deliver consistent results in front of their home supporters.

Although it was far from a classic, Swindon extended their unbeaten run to eight matches at The Nigel Eady County Ground with a 1-0 win over Chesterfield.

After winning just one of their first of their first eight home matches this season, since defeat to Morecambe in November they have rattled off six wins and two draws to turn Swindon into a daunting place to come.

After the Chesterfield win, assistant manager Bignot said that he was delighted to be able to give the Town fans something to smile about.

He said: “I am a supporter myself and it is never nice when you work all week and you are spending your hard-earned money to come and enjoy yourself on a Saturday but your football team are losing.

“That carries on into the next week then, so to have your football team winning is just something which makes you happier.

“I know I was happy in the week seeing Birmingham [City] get to Wembley, so I know what Swindon fans are feeling at the moment. It is going to be a good weekend.”

The match saw few chances created from open play and the goal eventually game from the spot as Kabongo Tshimanga capitalised on an error to win a penalty and then scored it himself.

Bignot said it said a lot about this team that although they were not able to play the kind of football they would have wanted to, they showed the grit to get three points anyway.

He said: “It is how you react when you don’t get what you want and I know the manager has spoken a lot about that and what is your attitude like then? What is your mentality like when things go against you?

“We just saw a performance that was not free-flowing football, it wasn’t going to be because of the conditions.

“I thought that all around it was a solid performance to get a clean sheet and the boys were rewarded for that and I certainly think we did enough to come away with the three points.

“But the supporters have seen a team out there who from eight games at home have got six wins and two draws.

“I am sure that any supporter coming now is happy with what they are seeing.”
